Director Park Chan-wook Addresses WGA Expulsion Amidst Strike Controversy
Director Park Chan-wook has clarified his expulsion from the Writers Guild of America (WGA).

On the 12th, Park's production company, Moho Film, stated that they did not violate any strike regulations.

According to Moho Film, during the 2023 WGA strike, Park was asked by HBO to make post-editing changes to 'The Sympathizer.' As the showrunner, he held a brief idea meeting with the production team. They emphasized that no scriptwriting occurred during the strike, as it was strictly prohibited.

The WGA is a major labor union representing over 11,500 writers in film, TV, and digital media in the U.S. Expulsion from the WGA makes it challenging to work on projects with major studios that have collective bargaining agreements with the union, and it excludes one from minimum wage and benefits guaranteed by the union.

Regarding why Park did not appeal the expulsion, it was explained that "the appeal and hearing process is very lengthy and complex. Director Park chose to focus on his project 'Hopeless' at the time." They further stated, "We believe that the expulsion will not significantly impact Park's practical activities and collaborations in Hollywood."

Director Park's film 'Hopeless' is set to release domestically next month. The movie tells the story of Man-soo (played by Lee Byung-hun), a satisfied office worker who suddenly gets laid off. He embarks on a re-employment battle to protect his family and home.
