Choi Yoo-jung Reflects on Her Emotional Journey in 'Broadway 42nd Street'

Since July 10, Choi Yoo-jung has been captivating audiences with her performance in the musical 'Broadway 42nd Street' at the Charlotte Theater in Jamsil, Seoul. On August 6, she sat down with our reporter to discuss her experiences with the production.
Set against the backdrop of 1930s New York during the Great Depression, 'Broadway 42nd Street' is renowned for its traditional show musical format and impressive tap dance performances. Choi Yoo-jung plays the lead role of Peggy Sawyer, a character who rises from an unknown newcomer to a star.
Peggy Sawyer is known for her dazzling tap dance skills, and Choi Yoo-jung delivers outstanding performances on stage for over two hours. The musical, which opened on September 10, is set to conclude its run in October with final performances in Ulsan and Busan. When asked about her thoughts on the last show, Choi Yoo-jung became emotional.
"I feel strange. I've poured so much into 'Broadway 42nd Street,'" she said, holding back tears. She imagined that by the final performance, she and Peggy would be completely united.
Choi Yoo-jung shared, "In the show, when I exchange final words with the director Julian Marsh, I say lines like 'It's done!' and 'We did it!' I try to deliver them casually now, but I think I'll be overwhelmed with tears on the last day. Even now, I sometimes feel Peggy's emotions when I say those lines."
Reflecting on her previous musical 'Hero' in September, she recalled, "I cried a lot during the final performance back then. With the added element of tap dancing in this show, I think it will be even harder to hold back tears, remembering all the time and effort I've invested."
After completing the four-month journey, Choi Yoo-jung expressed her desire to travel to a warm country with her parents. As an only child, she revealed, "I've never traveled abroad with my parents. My father usually says, 'What's the point of traveling?' but this time, I want to beg him to go on a family trip."
