I.O.I and Weki Meki's Choi Yoo-jung Shines in '42nd Street' Musical, Celebrates Strong Bonds with Former Group Members

Since July 10, Choi Yoo-jung has been captivating audiences with her performance in the musical '42nd Street' at the Charlotte Theater in Jamsil, Seoul. In a recent interview, she shared insights about her role and the production.
Set against the backdrop of 1930s New York during the Great Depression, '42nd Street' is renowned for its classic show musical elements and tap dance performances. Choi Yoo-jung plays the lead role of 'Peggy Sawyer,' a character who rises from an unknown to a star.
Demonstrating his support, ASTRO member Cha Eun-woo, who shares the same agency with Choi, attended her debut lead performance just four days before his military enlistment.
Choi Yoo-jung was a key member of the project girl group I.O.I, formed in 2016, and later Weki Meki in 2017. Although both groups have since disbanded, the bonds between the members remain strong.
Choi mentioned that fellow I.O.I members Kim Do-yeon and Kim Se-jeong, along with Weki Meki's Sei, attended her performance. She expressed gratitude, saying, "They've supported me since my first clumsy attempts at tap dancing, and now they find my progress impressive. I'm proud of myself for standing on this stage today."
Additionally, I.O.I's Yoo Yeon-jung is currently performing in the musical 'Frida.' Despite being in different productions, Choi and Yoo maintain a close relationship. Choi shared, "I often discuss musicals with Yeon-jung. We debuted together and have followed each other's careers, so it's easy to ask her for advice. Her insights are invaluable, and we often have deep conversations about our work."
