EXID's Hani Faces Criticism Over Makeup-Free Appearance on Reality Show

Hani, a member of the popular K-pop group EXID, recently returned to television through the MBN variety show 'Oh Eun-young Stay' after a 10-month hiatus following her engagement to psychiatrist Yang Jae-woong. However, her comeback has been met with controversy, ranging from plastic surgery rumors to debates over basic etiquette.

Hani appeared on the show on October 7th and 14th, marking her first TV appearance since postponing her wedding. 'Oh Eun-young Stay' is a program where participants with personal stories and concerns spend a night at a retreat, seeking comfort and empathy.

Hani arrived at the retreat alone, without a manager, taking a train and taxi. She appeared in a simple white T-shirt and minimal makeup, wearing only lip balm. During introductions, the other participants did not recognize her as a celebrity, prompting Hani to introduce herself as a singer and entertainer. She even asked, "Do I look different from what you expected?"

Following the broadcast, Hani faced plastic surgery allegations due to her altered appearance, including a shorter mid-face and fuller cheeks. Her makeup-free look also sparked debate online. Some viewers criticized her for not wearing makeup on TV, suggesting it was disrespectful to the audience.

This situation is reminiscent of rapper and singer Lee Young-ji, who faced similar criticism for appearing bare-faced on the tvN show 'Earth Arcade 3.' Despite the show's format, which involved spending nights with other cast members, Lee Young-ji chose to appear without makeup, leading to mixed reactions online.

In contrast, Baek Ji-heon from the group fromis_9 was praised for her professionalism, as she revealed she visited a salon at 2 AM for a YouTube channel shoot starting at 5 AM. Netizens commended her for her dedication and manners.

On 'Oh Eun-young Stay,' Hani explained her decision to appear without makeup, stating, "I've let go of everything. I'm trying to find out who I am and have the courage to be disliked." Despite her explanation, opinions remain divided, with some supporting her new challenge and others criticizing her for bringing personal feelings into her professional life. The public remains curious about when Hani's bold choices will be fully embraced.
