Comedian Kim Young-chul Hospitalized with Paralytic Ileus: Urges Caution with Summer Foods

On the 11th, Kim shared the news of his hospitalization through his social media. He recounted, "I barely ate breakfast at SBS on Wednesday and went home, suddenly craving black bean noodles and ramen. About 30 minutes after eating, I started experiencing abdominal pain." He continued, "I took some pain relief medication from the pharmacy and took a nap, but the pain didn't subside. Eventually, around midnight, I headed to the emergency room at Soonchunhyang Hospital."
The released photo shows Kim in a hospital gown receiving an IV drip, with a gaunt face showing signs of pain.
Medical professionals diagnosed Kim with paralytic ileus, a condition where the intestinal peristalsis temporarily stops, requiring hospitalization for this acute intestinal disorder. Kim stated, "Seafood and spicy food were the culprits. I'm feeling much better now, but it was really painful."
He added, "I'm glad I went to the hospital immediately, even though it was late at night. The medical staff mentioned that many patients visit the emergency room with this condition." He advised, "Please be extra cautious with food consumption during the summer. Spicy and salty foods should be particularly avoided, especially for someone like me who can't handle spicy food well."
Kim is currently resting in the hospital and will adjust his return schedule based on his recovery.
Meanwhile, Kim Young-chul hosts SBS PowerFM's 'Kim Young-chul's PowerFM' every morning from 7 to 9 AM. Fellow broadcaster Heo Kyung-hwan filled in for him on the day of his absence.
