Production of Highly Anticipated Drama 'Double Spy' Canceled Amid Industry Challenges

According to a report by TenAsia on the 7th, 'Double Spy,' which had generated excitement with the casting of Kim Myung-min and Choi Ji-woo, has been shelved before production could begin. The drama had garnered attention since its announcement in 2023.
'Double Spy' was to be a spy action comedy about Bong Tae-il, a former National Intelligence Service agent turned famous chef, who teams up with his past partner and lover, NIS agent Cha Kang-hee, to break up his daughter Bong Ah-mo and her boyfriend Park Jung-woo. Cha Kang-hee was to be portrayed as Bong Tae-il's prospective in-law, adding intrigue to the plot.

The script was penned by Choi Jung-mi, known for SBS drama 'Jang Ok-jung, Living by Love' and films like 'Shoot Me in the Heart' and 'The Map Against the World.' Realize Pictures, famous for the 'Along with the Gods' series, was set to produce the drama. Although discussions were underway for distribution on OTT platforms, production ultimately did not proceed.

The anticipated collaboration between Kim Myung-min and Choi Ji-woo, known for their reliable performances, unfortunately, did not come to fruition. Kim Myung-min recently ended his exclusive contract with Sim Entertainment after two years and is now a free agent. He is set to return to the big screen after five years with director Park Hoon-jung's 10th film, 'Sad Tropics.'
Choi Ji-woo is showcasing her charm on the variety show 'The Return of Superman' and displaying her rare variety skills on Coupang Play's original show 'Office Workers.' She is also awaiting the release of her film 'Sugar' as she continues her acting career.
