Coldplay's Chris Martin Jokes About Political Timing During South Korea Concert
Coldplay's frontman Chris Martin made a light-hearted comment about the coincidental timing of their concert in South Korea with the country's political situation.

On the 18th, Coldplay performed their second concert in South Korea at the Goyang Sports Complex. Towards the end of the show, Martin quipped, "Do you really need a president? You're doing just fine without one."

He mentioned his British roots, a constitutional monarchy, and joked, "Why is there no president whenever Coldplay visits?" Martin humorously suggested drummer Will Champion as a presidential candidate, describing him as "kind, funny, and strong." Champion responded with a smile.

Following this banter, Coldplay performed "Viva La Vida," a track from their 2008 album. During their first visit to South Korea eight years ago, Champion described the song as "about a powerful figure stepping down from their throne." The song became known as an anthem for impeachment during their 2017 visit, resonating in places like Gwanghwamun Square.

Coincidentally, Coldplay's visits in 2017 and this year both occurred during presidential impeachment periods in South Korea. Online, fans noted the "parallel theory," joking that "there's no president whenever Coldplay visits."

Coldplay is set to perform a total of six concerts during this visit. Following shows on the 16th and 18th, they will continue at the Goyang Sports Complex on the 22nd, 24th, and 25th.
