'You Know What?' Reporter Lee So-jung from TenAsia captures intriguing issues in the entertainment industry to stimulate the public's dopamine.

Recently, actors Kim Soo-hyun and Ko So-young have sparked mixed reactions from the public due to their perceived 'self-importance.' Critics argue that clinging to past glories or having a self-perception detached from reality can lead to a negative image.

On the 8th, Ko So-young, celebrating her 32nd debut anniversary, released a one-minute teaser video announcing the launch of her YouTube channel. In the video, she appears with grand titles such as 'Original Chanel Girl,' 'Celebrity's Celebrity,' and 'The Woman We Admired.' The channel is named 'The Ko So-young.' While some welcomed her return, others criticized it as an act of self-importance.

Ko So-young was a top star in the 1990s, debuting in the 1992 drama 'Tomorrow's Love' and becoming a leading actress in South Korea. However, her presence as an actress has faded, with her last work being the 2017 KBS2 drama 'Perfect Wife,' marking over seven years of inactivity.

The emphasis on past glories through her channel name and titles only widens the perception gap with the public. People are now more interested in her luxurious lifestyle, including her reported $40 million residence, rather than her acting career. This shift makes it challenging to expand her influence as an actress.

Around the same time, Kim Soo-hyun also found himself at the center of controversy. During a press conference on the 31st of last month regarding the late Kim Sae-ron, he referred to himself as a 'star,' which seemed out of touch with the issue at hand. His statement, "I feel a sense of responsibility as a star," was perceived as lacking sincerity and more as an expression of sudden self-admiration.

Some in the public found the use of 'star' to be out of place, criticizing the lack of substantial explanation and the self-aggrandizing tone. This led to ridicule, with Kim Soo-hyun being labeled as having an 'inflated ego.'

The issue is not with self-awareness itself. It's natural for actors who have been recognized by the public over time to have pride. However, if that pride is not based on current achievements or activities and relies solely on past fame, it becomes difficult to gain public empathy. The key is to recognize reality and communicate sincerely within it, rather than focusing solely on self-importance.
