Legal Battle Looms Over Taiwanese Actress Barbie Hsu's Estate

South Korean singer DJ Koo (Koo Jun-yup, 56) is facing a potential legal battle involving his wife, Taiwanese actress Barbie Hsu's (Hsu Si-yuan, 48) ex-husband, businessman Wang Xiaofei (42). Legal experts suggest that a court dispute over Hsu's estate may be unavoidable.

According to Taiwanese media outlet ETtoday, a lawyer stated, "There is no dispute that Barbie Hsu's estate should be inherited by DJ Koo and her two children, as Hsu is the sole custodian and guardian of the children." However, the lawyer noted, "Upon Hsu's passing, Wang Xiaofei becomes the legal representative by law. If Hsu's mother wishes to contest the children's rights, she must apply to the court to suspend Wang Xiaofei's guardianship until the children reach adulthood, based on his actions and circumstances."

The lawyer further expressed doubt about reaching an agreement on Hsu's estate due to Wang Xiaofei's position as the children's legal representative. "Currently, there seems to be little hope for negotiation, and the inheritance dispute may need to be resolved through the courts," the lawyer predicted.

However, the lawyer also mentioned that since Hsu and Wang Xiaofei had previously engaged in alimony litigation, there might be adjustments to the inheritance based on the outcome of that case. Additionally, the lawyer suggested that reaching an agreement on Hsu's real estate assets could be particularly challenging.

The lawyer identified Hsu's mother as a key figure in the distribution of Hsu's estate, stating, "She has the right to request the suspension of Wang Xiaofei's guardianship until the children become adults. Hsu's mother is considering the best interests of the children and exercising her legal rights." However, the lawyer also noted, "Wang Xiaofei, despite having his guardianship suspended, retains the right to request its restoration in court, indicating that the legal battle between the parties is ongoing."

Previously, a netizen revealed that Wang Xiaofei and his mother, Zhang Lan, were in debt to the tune of $142 million and had allegedly established a trust in Taiwan under a relative's name to conceal and launder money, causing public shock.

DJ Koo has vowed to protect Barbie Hsu's family and two children from Wang Xiaofei. On his social media, DJ Koo declared, "The estate was accumulated by Hsu through her hard work to protect her beloved family, and I intend to give all my rights to my mother-in-law." He added, "I will take legal measures through a lawyer to ensure that the children's rights are protected from bad people until they reach adulthood."

DJ Koo also criticized Wang Xiaofei and his family's behavior, stating, "Even before the time of great loss and mourning had passed, devil-like people began to slander our family and my love." He continued, "Some pretend to be sad, walking in the rain, while others create fake news about insurance and expenses to harm our family."

Wang Xiaofei was spotted walking in the rain without an umbrella on the night of his return to Taiwan after hearing of Hsu's death on the 3rd. Additionally, false rumors circulated that Wang Xiaofei's mother covered the funeral costs in Japan and the charter flight to Taiwan.

As a result, Wang Xiaofei and his mother, Zhang Lan, have been indefinitely banned from Chinese social media platforms like Weibo and TikTok.

Barbie Hsu passed away on February 2nd from acute pneumonia caused by influenza while on a family trip to Japan for the Lunar New Year. She was cremated in Japan, and her estate is estimated to be worth approximately 600 million yuan ($120 million).

Barbie Hsu married Wang Xiaofei in 2011 and had a son and a daughter with him. They divorced in November 2021 after ten years of marriage. She later married DJ Koo on February 8, 2022.
