Taiwanese Businessman Wang Xiaofei Faces $142 Million Debt Allegations Amidst Family Drama

According to Taiwanese media outlet ET Today, a netizen has accused Wang Xiaofei and his mother, Zhang Lan, of amassing a $142 million debt and using a trust in Taiwan under a relative's name to hide and launder money.
The netizen claims that the debt arose from falsified sales reports when selling a beauty company to a private equity firm. The firm discovered the forgery and sued Zhang Lan, resulting in a court order to pay $142 million in damages.
It is further alleged that Zhang Lan transferred money to Taiwan, establishing a trust fund under Wang Xiaofei and his relatives' names, while denying any connection to the funds. The private equity firm reportedly discovered that Zhang Lan secretly diverted funds and purchased real estate in New York through seven anonymous accounts.
This revelation has intensified interest in the inheritance of Barbie Hsu, who passed away recently. DJ Koo had previously stated his intention to forgo his inheritance rights in favor of Hsu's mother, a move that legal experts have advised against.

Lawyers recommend that DJ Koo should claim his rightful share of the inheritance under Taiwanese law and then transfer it to Hsu's mother, though this may incur significant gift taxes.
Additionally, if Barbie Hsu had legally designated her children and mother as beneficiaries in a will, her mother could receive a portion of the inheritance. Without such a will, DJ Koo and the children retain their legal rights to the estate.

DJ Koo criticized Wang Xiaofei and his family, saying, "Even before the mourning period ended, malicious individuals began to slander our family and my love." He accused them of spreading false news about insurance and expenses to harm the family.
Previously, Wang Xiaofei was seen walking in the rain without an umbrella after returning to Taiwan upon hearing of Hsu's death. False rumors also circulated that Wang Xiaofei's mother covered the funeral and charter flight expenses from Japan to Taiwan.
As a result, Wang Xiaofei and Zhang Lan have faced indefinite bans from Chinese social media platforms like Weibo and TikTok.
Barbie Hsu passed away on February 2nd due to acute pneumonia caused by influenza while on a family trip to Japan for the Lunar New Year. Her estate is reportedly valued at approximately 6 billion yuan ($1.2 billion).
Barbie Hsu married Wang Xiaofei in 2011 and had a son and a daughter before divorcing in November 2021. She later married DJ Koo on February 8, 2022.
