BTS's Jimin Shines at MAMA Awards and Donates Generously During Military Service
BTS member Jimin continues to impress even during his military service. Following his win at the 'MAMA' Awards, he has donated 100 million KRW to the Army's 'Patriotic Comradeship Fund'.
On November 22, Jimin was awarded the 'VISA FANS' CHOICE OF THE YEAR' at the '2024 MAMA AWARDS' held at Kyocera Dome Osaka, Japan. This accolade is one of the four grand prizes at 'MAMA', showcasing his 'world-class' popularity.
Jimin's achievement marks his second consecutive year of winning at 'MAMA', having previously won a main award as a solo artist last year. At the '2023 MAMA', he also won 'BEST MALE ARTIST', and with BTS, he received 'WORLDWIDE ARTIST OF THE YEAR', 'BEST OST', and 'WORLDWIDE ICON OF THE YEAR'.
In this year's 'FANS' CHOICE MALE TOP 10', BTS members RM, V, Jimin, and Jungkook dominated the awards, highlighting their unmatched popularity. Jimin has also made a significant donation while serving in the military. On October 1, coinciding with Armed Forces Day, he donated 100 million KRW to the 'Patriotic Comradeship Fund', a collaboration between the Army and the Chungnam Social Welfare Community Chest. This act of generosity has earned him membership in the Honor Society.
Currently serving in the military, Jimin learned about the fund's mission to support soldiers who have dedicated themselves to the nation. He quietly conveyed his intention to donate through his father, aiming to assist fellow soldiers facing hardships.
The donated funds will be used by the Chungnam Social Welfare Community Chest, in partnership with the Army since 2018, to provide living expenses, medical bills, and scholarships to Army soldiers and their families who have sacrificed for the country.
Since 2019, Jimin has consistently donated 100 million KRW annually to support scholarships for students from low-income families in Busan, Jeonnam, Chungbuk, and Gyeongnam. His philanthropic efforts also include providing new desks and chairs for his alma mater, contributing to polio eradication funds, and supporting earthquake relief.
Meanwhile, Jimin's second solo album 'MUSE', released in July, reached No. 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart. The album's title track 'Who' debuted at No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100, demonstrating its immense popularity. Jimin has maintained a presence on both major Billboard charts for 17 consecutive weeks.
On Spotify, the world's largest music streaming platform, Jimin has set new records. As of the chart dated November 13, 'Who' achieved 1 billion streams in the shortest time for a song released by a Korean artist this year. It remains the only K-pop song released in 2024 to surpass 1 billion streams.
