BTS Member Suga Charged with DUI on Electric Scooter
BTS member Suga (31, real name Min Yoon-gi) has been summarily indicted for driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol.
The Seoul Western District Prosecutors' Office's Criminal Division 2 (Chief Prosecutor Choo Hye-yoon) announced on the 10th that Suga has been summarily indicted for driving an electric scooter while intoxicated.
A summary indictment is a procedure where the prosecution requests the court to issue a summary order for fines, penalties, or confiscation without a formal trial when the charges are relatively minor. The prosecution did not disclose the amount requested for Suga.
Meanwhile, Suga was caught by police on the night of the 6th of last month at around 11:15 PM while riding an electric scooter under the influence on a street in Hannam-dong, Yongsan-gu, Seoul. The police booked Suga for DUI the following day, on the 7th.
Suga's blood alcohol concentration at the time was found to be 0.227%, significantly exceeding the license revocation standard of 0.08%, indicating a state of 'severe intoxication.' Under current law, a blood alcohol concentration of 0.2% or higher can result in a prison sentence of 2 to 5 years or a fine ranging from 10 million to 20 million KRW.
