The deceased, who was born in 1966 and was a child actor, established himself as a popular star of his time through films such as 'Whale Hunting 2' (1985) and 'Mimi and Cheolsu's Youth Sketch' (1987). She then won the Best Actress Award at the Venice Film Festival for director Im Kwon-taek's film 'Mr. Seedling' (1986).

In 1989, she received the Best Actress Award at the Moscow Film Festival for 'Aze Aze Baraaze' and was given the title 'World Star'. In particular, Kang Soo-yeon's Best Actress Award at the Venice Film Festival attracted attention as she was the first Korean actress to receive the award at an international film festival. Last year, on the first anniversary of the death of the late Kang Soo-yeon, a memorial exhibition ‘Kang Soo-yeon, a gloriously long life’ was held. The memorial exhibition, hosted by the Kang Soo-yeon Memorial Project Promotion Committee, which consists of 29 filmmakers including director Im Kwon-taek, former chairman Kim Dong-ho, and actors Park Jung-hoon and Ye Ji-won, screened 11 of the late actor Kang Soo-yeon's works in order to enhance her achievements and status from the perspective of 2023. did. In addition, a memorial book titled ‘Kang Soo-yeon’ recording the deceased’s film journey was also published.
