Comedian Yang Sang-guk Faces Challenges in Matchmaking on 'Joseon's Love Matchmaker'

Comedian Yang Sang-guk, known for his humor, recently appeared on TV Chosun's 'Joseon's Love Matchmaker' and shared his struggles with matchmaking after being labeled a 'Grade 6 Man.'

On the episode aired on the 4th, Yang Sang-guk expressed his desire to find a partner, stating, "I have always been doing well on my own, but I came here because I want to get married." He visited a 45-year-old matchmaking agency previously visited by the couple Kim Hak-rae and Im Mi-sook with their son Kim Dong-young.

At the agency, Yang lamented, "Why is marriage so difficult?" The agency's representative, known as the 'Matchmaking President,' advised, "You have a handsome face, but you're stubborn. If you want to get married, you need to ease up a bit." Yang, however, questioned, "Why should I ease up?" drawing attention.

While filling out the membership form, Yang revealed, "I didn't graduate from a local university. My father was a taxi driver and farmer." He described his ideal partner as someone whose "education, job, and monthly income don't matter. Personality is most important. I prefer someone with manners, sense, and a graceful appearance, ideally a woman from Seoul," referencing the 'Cheongdam-dong daughter-in-law' type.

The agency head candidly stated, "Don't take this the wrong way, but you're in a lower tier. You're Grade 6 due to your educational background. This is a matchmaking service, not a dating service. No one is looking for someone like that." Feeling offended by the lowest grade, Yang expressed his intention to leave, saying, "I'm going to go now," refusing to continue filming. Observing this, other participants laughed, noting, "It's the first time someone has fought at a matchmaking agency."

Yang inquired, "What grade of woman can a Grade 6 man meet?" The agency head replied, "You can be introduced to up to Grade 2." After reviewing profiles, including a 1993-born university lecturer and a 1992-born Pilates instructor, Yang ultimately decided to forgo the matchmaking process.

Meeting with the production team, Yang expressed, "I'm disappointed in myself," but also questioned, "Why do people have to be graded?" indicating his preference for natural encounters.

Meanwhile, Yang recently faced criticism from some viewers for his patriarchal remarks, such as "I've never taken a girlfriend home" and "People might think I don't recycle." He later apologized, saying, "I'm very sorry for making you uncomfortable."
