Comedian Kim Sook Faces Potential Halt in Jeju Home Renovation Due to Unexpected Discovery
Comedian Kim Sook has expressed concerns over the potential halt of renovations on her 220-pyeong home in Jeju.

On the October 1st episode of tvN's 'Unpredictable', an unexpected situation arose during the remodeling process of Kim Sook's Jeju house.

While construction was in full swing, members working in the yard discovered a strange object, causing a sudden shift in atmosphere.

Jeon Hye-jin, who found the object while digging, said, “Wait, wait, there’s something hard here,” and stopped the work.

The members on site immediately gathered, and Song Eun-i, upon inspecting the object, remarked, “This looks like a relic from the war,” highlighting the seriousness of the situation.

The tension rose when someone mentioned, “If relics are found here, construction must stop.”

Hearing this, Kim Sook expressed her concern, saying, “(If that happens) we can never sell the house. The excavation already delayed us by three months.”

A site official added, “You need to report this to the Heritage Agency,” adding weight to the situation. Subsequently, a caption appeared on the screen stating, “Further work deemed impossible,” suggesting the possibility of a construction halt.

Kim Sook and the production team visited the World Heritage Headquarters for accurate verification. There, they were informed that “there is a risk of construction being halted,” drawing attention to future proceedings.

This scene was revealed at the end of the broadcast, increasing curiosity for the next episode.

Kim Sook's Jeju home is located in Seogwipo City's Seongeup Village and is known to be about 220 pyeong in size. It was initially co-owned with Song Eun-i, but after a share adjustment in 2017, Kim Sook became the sole owner.

The area is included in a designated national heritage zone, requiring approval procedures according to related standards. The construction proceeded after adjusting the design and completing the necessary procedures.

Subsequently, the National Heritage Agency announced the 'Jeju Seongeup Village Designated Zone and Permissible Standards Adjustment Plan', revealing that the house site is included in the de-designation target. If the adjustment plan is confirmed, the site will be excluded from the cultural heritage designated zone, easing restrictions related to construction and repairs while maintaining a certain level of management standards.

Previously, Kim Sook shared her thoughts on the de-designation news of the house from the national heritage zone. She stated on her YouTube channel, “Our house has been excluded from the Jeju cultural heritage designated zone. I was so shocked that I felt like I should camp in my car.”

Regarding the construction process, she also confessed, “Honestly, I’ve thought about quitting countless times. Even at this moment, I feel like giving up everything.”

Meanwhile, the house, purchased in 2012, had not been used for a long time, and its remodeling process is being broadcast through tvN's 'Unpredictable'.
