YUJU Returns with New Single 'First Love is a Curse' After 8 Months

Singer YUJU is making a comeback with her new single after an 8-month hiatus.

On the 29th at 6 PM, YUJU will release her new single 'First Love is a Curse' on various online music platforms.

'First Love is a Curse' captures the emotions that are painfully remembered because they were once beautiful. YUJU conveys the message that becoming a curse to someone is akin to being a devil pretending to be an angel, aiming to resonate with listeners.

Previously, YUJU showcased a more mature image in her concept photos. She explained the reason behind the striking title, saying, "I realized that 'unresolved emotions' in relationships linger the longest." She added, "I created this song with the hope that the protagonist, leaving behind only a beautiful image without any blame or resentment, would remain in the other's mind like a curse of first love."

YUJU participated in writing and composing the new song, showcasing her unique style. Having proven her capabilities as a singer-songwriter by frequently contributing to her credits, she is expected to further establish her distinct musical world with 'First Love is a Curse.'

YUJU, known for her limitless versatility with each comeback, shared insights about 'First Love is a Curse' ahead of its release.

Below is a Q&A with YUJU.

Q. It's been about 8 months since your mini-album 'In Bloom.' How do you feel about your comeback?
I wanted to release as many songs as possible without long breaks. Creating new work and preparing for its release is very exciting.

Q. What is 'First Love is a Curse' about? What message and points of interest do you want to convey with this new song?
The song is about becoming a memory that follows someone like a first love. I feel the lyrics in the second verse are the highlight of the song.

Q. The title 'First Love is a Curse' is intriguing. What inspired it?
I realized that 'unresolved emotions' in relationships linger the longest. In love, people often remember the beautiful memories more painfully than the ugly ones. I created this song hoping the protagonist would leave behind only a beautiful image, becoming a curse-like memory of first love in the other's mind.

Q. If you could express 'First Love is a Curse' in one keyword, what would it be?
A dream you have again just as you're about to forget.

Q. Do you have any memorable episodes from preparing this single, such as recording or filming?
I always focus when recording any song, but for this one, I remember carefully choosing the perfume and clothes I wore on the recording day to immerse myself more deeply.

Q. You participated in writing and composing this song. What did you focus on during the creation process?
I tend to turn the most lingering themes in my mind into songs. 'First Love is a Curse' was born from that process, and I immersed myself in every aspect, from the track to the melody, lyrics, and visuals. I wrote the lyrics to convey deep emotions with short, straightforward words. I believe music with sincerity has power, so during this project, the producer, director, and I all immersed ourselves in the protagonist's perspective.

Q. What goals or plans do you have for this comeback?
I hope this song becomes a stepping stone to establish a clear musical identity for YUJU.

Q. Any message for the fans who have been waiting for your comeback?
Thank you for always being excited, hurting, and happy with me. I'll be the first love for my fans (official fandom name).
