On the 22nd, Kwak Young-kwang delivered a captivating performance on the 9th episode of MBN's 'Legend of the Nameless - Trot Men's Ranking Battle' (hereafter 'Legend of the Nameless'). Competing in the third round of the 'National Song Contest,' he dominated the stage in both the 'Team Medley Battle' and 'Top Ace Battle' rounds.
Previously, Kwak Young-kwang had made it to the TOP5, ranking 5th, with his outstanding performance in the '1-on-1 Death Match.' As a leader, he formed the team 'Glory of the Nameless' with fellow unknown artists Han Garak, Ji Young-il, and Marcus Kang. As both the leader and the youngest, he united the team with his strong presence.
In the first round 'Team Medley Battle,' Kwak Young-kwang showcased a variety of charms with a medley of legendary singer Jeon Young-rok's hits. Starting with the grand harmonies of 'Is It Still a Dark Night,' he transformed into a sweet romanticist with 'Love Is Like Raindrops Outside the Window,' melting the audience's hearts. In 'Evening Glow,' he appeared in a leather jacket, displaying a deep and powerful harmony with a charismatic twist.
In 'Don't Think,' the team turned the atmosphere into a lively and witty dance party with their unique tones, and in the final 'Paper Crane' performance, Kwak Young-kwang delivered the lyrics solely with his voice under a spotlight, filling the venue with overwhelming emotion. Kim Kwang-kyu praised it as a stage that evoked memories of school days and military life, while original artist Jeon Young-rok applauded, saying, 'I'm deeply moved by the remake by my juniors.'
Riding the momentum, Kwak Young-kwang represented his team in the second round 'Top Ace Battle.' He chose Kim Ji-ae's 'Heartless Person,' written and composed by Jeon Young-rok, showcasing his 'stage genius' side with couple choreography and playful charm. Jeon Young-rok expressed surprise, saying, 'You sang it deliciously. Where did you even find this song?' Kwak Young-kwang revealed his dedication, stating, 'I searched through over 200 songs to find the one that suits me best.'
Kang Moon-kyung offered technical advice, suggesting, 'Practicing falsetto will give you more ease,' and proposed, 'Let's research together if we get the chance,' proving Kwak Young-kwang's limitless potential for growth.
Although the 'Glory of the Nameless' team did not all advance, Kwak Young-kwang was named an additional qualifier, securing his ticket to the semifinals.
