Netflix's 'Death Game' returns for Season 2, revealing key highlights as shared by the production team and hosts. The recent addition of new dad Kwak Tube is also highly anticipated. In Season 1, winners of 1-on-1 games took home 10 million won, but with Season 2's shift to a tournament format, the prize amount for the winner remains a mystery.
Netflix's daily variety show 'Death Game 2: The Final Winner' (directed by Kwon Dae-hyun, produced by TEO) is a cerebral final match that crowns a single winner each week through a tournament format. Returning from Season 1 are Hong Jin-ho, DinDin, IVE's Gaeul, Pengsoo, Park Sung-woong, Seo Chul-goo, Yurisa, and Heo Sung-beom. Joining them are new faces including travel YouTuber Kwak Tube with 2.15 million subscribers, Kiki Jiyu, and 'Single's Inferno 5' alum Park Hee-sun, promising a fresh dynamic.
Ahead of its premiere today (22nd) at 5 PM, a written interview with the production team and hosts was released. Director Kwon Dae-hyun highlighted the main difference between Season 1 and 2 as the introduction of a tournament format to determine the 'last one standing.' He explained, "While Season 1 was about discovering the players' characters and potential, Season 2 will focus solely on 'victory.'" He added, "This season includes not only 1:1 deathmatches but also preliminary rounds where multiple contestants compete for survival, and team matches requiring cooperation for victory." He also teased, "Expect surprising performances from newcomers Kwak Tube, Jiyu, and Park Hee-sun."
The presence of the hosts, reminiscent of sports commentators, is also noteworthy. Commentator Jang Dong-min recalled IVE's Gaeul's unexpected play as the most memorable moment across both seasons, while caster Park Sang-hyun mentioned the first showdown between legends Hong Jin-ho and Lee Se-dol. Park Sang-hyun shared, "The pressure to maximize entertainment as a commentator kept me up at night," but added, "The moment my anxiety turned into thrilling excitement while working with the living legend 'God Dong-min,' I truly felt the charm of 'Death Game.'"
Jang Dong-min and Park Sang-hyun expressed excitement for the return of Hong Jin-ho's strategic genius. Jang Dong-min pointed out, "Watch to see if Hong Jin-ho's spectacular comeback will happen or if a new legend will emerge," emphasizing, "The introduction of the tournament format will bring more intricate strategies and a tension-filled narrative."
'Death Game 2: The Final Winner' premieres today (22nd) at 5 PM on Netflix.
