Jang Dong-yoon Debuts as Director with Feature Film 'Nuruuk'

Jang Dong-yoon shares his thoughts on debuting as a director with the feature film 'Nuruuk'.

On the 13th, Jang Dong-yoon, who directed the film 'Nuruuk', was interviewed at a cafe in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.

'Nuruuk' tells the story of a high school girl named Daseul, who is the daughter of a famous local brewery and a lover of makgeolli. One day, she notices a change in the taste of makgeolli and sets out to find the missing nuruk, leading to an intriguing adventure.

The unique concept of nuruk originated from an imaginative thought during the pandemic. Jang Dong-yoon explained, "I found it amusing that there was a myth about kimchi preventing SARS in the past," and added, "During the COVID-19 pandemic, I wondered what if there was a special makgeolli with the ability to fight the virus, which sparked the idea." He chose makgeolli as the central theme because, "Although I have been abstinent for a long time, makgeolli was my favorite drink. In college, seniors often drank it, so I became familiar with it. I was fascinated by the fermentation and distillation process, which led me to buy books and study traditional brewing methods."

The protagonist, Daseul, despite being underage, secretly drinks makgeolli at school and even delivers it by truck. Jang Dong-yoon commented, "I thought the scenes of a high school girl drinking and driving a truck would create conflicts within constraints, making the story more interesting."

'Nuruuk' is set to be released on the 15th.
