The 23rd anniversary of the passing of Hong Kong actor Leslie Cheung is being commemorated.
Leslie Cheung tragically ended his life on April 1, 2003, by jumping from the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Hong Kong. He was 47 years old.
The news broke on April Fool's Day, leading many to initially doubt its authenticity. Once confirmed, fans around the world were left in shock.
Cheung began his entertainment career as a singer, securing second place in the 1976 Hong Kong ATV Asian Music Contest. He rose to international stardom with his role in John Woo's film 'A Better Tomorrow'.
He continued to captivate global audiences with performances in films such as 'Farewell My Concubine', 'Days of Being Wild', and 'Happy Together'. Cheung is celebrated as a key figure in the golden era of Hong Kong cinema during the 1980s, alongside stars like Chow Yun-fat and Tony Leung.
