The Coupang Play variety show 'Kang Ho-dong's Bookstore' is set in the charming fictional neighborhood of 'Kang Ho-dong' and features a unique world view with 'Hocrates,' a character who has lived alongside humans for thousands of years. Despite its creative premise, the show has not made it to the FunDex buzz rankings for programs or cast members in the third week of March, nor has it secured a spot among the top popular content on Coupang Play.
However, there are aspects of the show that have been well-received. Kang Ho-dong transforms into the bookstore owner 'Hocrates,' and visitors often humorously comment, "You look a lot like someone I know," to which Hocrates responds with witty comebacks, providing light-hearted moments for the audience.
Each week, Kang Ho-dong engages in sincere conversations with various guests, using the bookstore setting as a backdrop to explore life stories. His warm and comforting hosting style helps guests relax in the unfamiliar setting. Sometimes he leads the conversation with energetic hosting skills, while at other times, he listens attentively to the guests' life philosophies, creating a dynamic flow.
Previous guests, such as actors Ha Jung-woo and Lee Sun-bin, shared deep life stories, while former MMA fighter and broadcaster Kim Dong-hyun found common ground with Kang Ho-dong through their shared athletic backgrounds, leading to richer discussions.
'Kang Ho-dong's Bookstore' airs every Friday at 4 PM on Coupang Play, with the fourth episode featuring chef Ok Dong-sik as a guest, set to be released today, the 27th.
