SHINee's Onew, who once alarmed fans with his drastic weight loss, candidly shared his past dangerous eating habits and his current health recovery through systematic management.
On TVXQ's Changmin's YouTube channel '새고_F5-덕밥집', a video titled 'We Tried Tearing Apart Chilli's Cheese Sticks Instead of the Stage' was uploaded.
In the video, Onew, who made a spectacular comeback with SHINee's fifth mini-album 'TOUGH LOVE', appeared and had an in-depth conversation with his senior in the music industry, TVXQ's Changmin.
Onew pointed to his past extreme eating habits, which relied heavily on sweets, as the cause of his rapid health deterioration. He shocked viewers by revealing that he once thought he could live on cake alone and actually tried it.
However, this unbalanced nutrition intake soon led to severe health issues, and Onew confessed that he realized his physical condition had significantly worsened.
Hearing Onew's confession, Changmin expressed deep concern, recalling Onew's noticeably gaunt appearance in the past.
Changmin shared that many around them had advised that Onew's condition was very dangerous when he was losing weight rapidly, offering sincere concern.
In fact, Onew appeared at official events looking drastically thinner around the time of SHINee's 8th full album 'HARD' in 2023, sparking health concerns. He eventually took a break from activities to focus on recovery due to health reasons.
Onew acknowledged that his addiction to sweets was a red flag for his health at the time, but reassured fans that he has regained his health through sufficient exercise and a strict diet.
The two also reminisced about their past experiences as models for confectionery ads, sharing a lighthearted trip down memory lane. Onew surprised Changmin by bringing snacks that TVXQ advertised 22 years ago and recreated a dance from a ramen commercial he starred in, lifting the mood on set.
Onew's preference for hazelnut scents, inherited from his mother, momentarily flustered Changmin, but he soon related, showcasing their strong senior-junior bond.
Meanwhile, following his successful comeback, Onew is set to hold fan meetings in five Asian cities, starting in Seoul next month, continuing his active engagements.
