On the October 24th episode of SBS's variety show 'Same Bed, Different Dreams 2 - You Are My Destiny' (hereafter referred to as 'Same Bed, Different Dreams'), Chef Kim Hee-eun shared, "I met my biological mother for the first time when I was 18."
Kim Hee-eun recalled, "I didn't have a mother from the moment I was born." She continued, "Of course, it doesn't make sense. My mother must have given birth to me. But in my memory, there were only my grandmother and father."
After her parents' divorce, Kim Hee-eun was raised by her grandmother. She became curious about her mother during kindergarten. Kim Hee-eun explained, "I found an unfamiliar album in my dad's room. There were these beautiful people, and I thought, 'This must be my mom.'"
Kim Hee-eun asked her father about her mother's existence. His response was, "She left because you weren't a son." He also told Kim Hee-eun not to talk about her mother. Reflecting on this, Kim Hee-eun said, "I thought, 'I shouldn't be curious about my mom.'"
It wasn't until her second year of high school that Kim Hee-eun met her mother for the first time. "I thought it was time to meet her," Kim Hee-eun said. "I don't remember the emotions from that time. But among the crowd, there was one person with teary eyes approaching, and I recognized her immediately."
The first words Kim Hee-eun's mother said to her were, "Baby, my puppy." However, Kim Hee-eun responded with, "Excuse me," which caused her mother to collapse and cry. Kim Hee-eun, recalling the moment, struggled to hold back tears. She added, "My mom is sick now. She's battling cancer," and was unable to continue speaking as she broke down in tears.
