Korean Broadcaster Jang Young-ran Addresses 'Linked Programming' Allegations

Korean broadcaster Jang Young-ran has spoken out regarding allegations of 'linked programming.'

On the 24th, Jang Young-ran took to her social media to address the controversy. On the 23rd, a YouTube channel claimed that a specific health product was being promoted on a program, and during the same time slot, the product was being sold on a home shopping channel, allegedly encouraging consumer purchases. Jang Young-ran's brand was mentioned in this context, sparking the controversy.

Jang Young-ran apologized, saying, "I am sorry for causing concern and worry to many people due to the content related to the brand I am responsible for, which was discussed in a recent YouTube video."

She continued, "I am currently verifying each of the raised issues. So far, we have adhered to the relevant regulations and guidelines, and I believe there have been no violations or oversights in the process."

Jang Young-ran denied involvement in the alleged 'linked programming' structure. She stated, "I have not been involved in the home shopping or broadcasting production process, nor in the casting of participants."

However, she acknowledged, "I take seriously the fact that an inappropriate presenter introduced the product, causing discomfort and disappointment to many. I sincerely apologize."

She added, "I thought it was a way to introduce a good product to more consumers, but I realize the process may have been perceived differently. I believe my judgment was lacking. I will carefully review what might have felt insufficient from the consumer's perspective and promise to communicate more cautiously and meticulously."

Jang Young-ran concluded, "I will also take the criticism of the content I have created over a long time seriously. I will correct the shortcomings and move forward with more responsibility."
