BTS Documentary 'BTS: THE RETURN' Director Bao Nguyen Shares Insight on the Group's Creative Struggles

Director Bao Nguyen of the BTS documentary film 'BTS: THE RETURN' expressed deep empathy for the challenges faced by the members of the group.

On the afternoon of the 20th, Netflix held a screening event for the documentary film 'BTS: THE RETURN' at Cinecube Gwanghwamun in Jongno-gu, Seoul. The event was attended by the film's director Bao Nguyen, producer Jane Cha Cutler, and Kim Hyun-jung, VP of Big Hit Music.

What Did the Director Observe in BTS's Creative Process?

Director Bao Nguyen spoke about the struggles he witnessed among the members. He admitted, "Initially, I thought capturing their creative process would be easy. After a few days, I realized they were under immense pressure, and it was different from what I had anticipated." He explained, "I aimed to capture how they overcome difficulties as brothers and a second family. The film conveys the message that they could achieve it because they were together as seven."

The Meaning Behind BTS's 'Heavy Crown'

Bao Nguyen also described the burden BTS carries as "a heavy crown." He noted, "Sometimes we overlook what 'BTS' means and the immense responsibility they hold as Koreans and global artists." He added, "I witnessed how they turn this responsibility into creative works. It was evident that they don't take their circumstances for granted and work diligently."

The documentary film 'BTS: THE RETURN' will be released on Netflix on the 27th. The footage includes scenes from their past world tour, military service, and songwriting sessions in Los Angeles for new songs.

Meanwhile, BTS will release their 5th studio album 'ARIRANG' at 1 PM on the 20th, marking their first full group activity in about four years.
