Actor Park Shin-yang, known for his iconic roles, has revealed his current lifestyle of living in a container while preparing for an art exhibition.
On the October 20th episode of KBS 2TV's 'New Release Pyeonstorang', Park Shin-yang made a rare appearance.
Why is Park Shin-yang Living in a Container After 7 Years?
Once a 'national actor', Park Shin-yang is now residing in a small container inside a warehouse in Andong, Gyeongbuk, focusing on his painting work. Since his last acting role in the 2019 drama 'Neighborhood Lawyer Jo Deul-ho', he has been absent from the public eye. The show's hosts expressed surprise at his update after seven years, especially at the sight of the large warehouse and the old container in the middle of a barren field. The hosts were astonished, commenting, "It looks like the construction isn't finished," and "Does someone really live here?" Even Boom humorously remarked, "Is he living like a beggar?"
From Actor to Artist: The Real Reason Behind Picking Up the Brush
Park Shin-yang appeared in a stained, worn-out work outfit, explaining, "This is what I always wear when working. It's so cold that I have to wear ski pants," and added, "I'm too busy to change clothes." The warehouse was filled with his paintings, and he revealed, "I've painted around 200 pieces over 13 years."
His decision to pursue painting was partly due to health issues. Park Shin-yang shared, "I injured my back during 'Lovers in Paris', and after surgery for a herniated disc, I was unable to get up due to complications." Despite continuing his acting career after emergency surgery, neglecting his health led to hyperthyroidism, further deteriorating his condition and making normal activities challenging.
Park Shin-yang said, "I pondered what to do next and started painting." After 13 years of dedicated work, he announced, "I've curated my works for an exhibition at the Sejong Center for the Performing Arts."
