Park Shin-yang played a forensic scientist in the drama 'Sign'. During filming, he reportedly lived a life comparable to that of an actual forensic scientist. He disclosed that he observed over 50 autopsies to prepare for his role.
What insights did he gain from observing autopsies?
Park Shin-yang shared, "When working on films or dramas, I conduct as much preliminary research as possible. I prepared for 'Sign' in the same way. The actual work of a forensic scientist involves performing autopsies." He recounted his experiences, saying, "It was my first time encountering corpses. Some were clean, while others were decomposed or involved in accidents." He added, "After witnessing these, I felt strange. Although I don't drink, I felt like I needed a drink." He explained that he attended approximately 100 autopsies. He also mentioned, "Initially, I didn't quite grasp it, but I faced many gruesome scenes. I continuously interviewed the bereaved families. They expressed gratitude for being alive and waking up the next day. It seemed like a simple statement, but I thought it would be good to express it in the drama."
Why did he choose Kim Eun-hee's first terrestrial drama?
'Sign' was written by Kim Eun-hee and was her first terrestrial drama. It was also directed by Jang Hang-jun, who is now a renowned director. Kim Eun-hee once said, "'Sign' could come to life thanks to Park Shin-yang." Regarding his decision to appear in a drama by a rookie writer, Park Shin-yang stated, "It was a new concept, and I felt it was a drama with a clear message."
