Lee Hwi-jae Returns to Stage After 4 Years, Skips 'Immortal Songs' Afterparty
Lee Hwi-jae, who recently made his comeback on 'Immortal Songs' after a four-year hiatus, reportedly did not attend the show's afterparty.

On the previous day, Lee participated in the recording of KBS2's 'Immortal Songs' at the KBS New Building Public Hall in Yeouido-dong, Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul. The episode was a special titled '2026 Entertainment King Battle.' Lee, who returned as a singer, chose to perform Cho Ho-seop's 'When Time Passes.' This marked his first performance in four years.

It was reported that numerous entertainment industry figures, including producers and writers who had connections with Lee, gathered at the KBS New Building. There were continuous reunions from the waiting time until the end of the recording. Even Lee's former managers and staff from 20 years ago were present to meet him.

However, despite the 'Immortal Songs' team holding an afterparty, Lee reportedly left around 11 PM after the recording concluded.

With Lee's return, past controversies have resurfaced. In 2016, during the 'SBS Drama Awards,' he faced criticism for making inappropriate remarks to actor Sung Dong-il, asking if he came from home and mistaking him for a staff member. He also stirred controversy by asking Namgoong Min to mention a co-star's flaws from the drama 'Beautiful Gong Shim.' Lee later apologized, admitting his attempt at humor was excessive.

His wife, Moon Jung-won, has also been at the center of several controversies. In 2017, she faced allegations of not paying for toys at an amusement park, and in 2021, she was involved in a noise complaint controversy after playing baseball indoors with their children. Moon acknowledged her carelessness and apologized.

Due to these controversies, Lee effectively halted his broadcasting activities in 2022 and moved to Canada with his family. This led to ongoing rumors of his retirement and emigration.

Following his comeback, Lee is expected to remain in Korea for the time being, rather than returning to Canada.
