Netflix Confirms Sequel for Hit Animated Film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters'

Netflix has announced the production of a sequel to its animated film 'K-Pop Demon Hunters'.

On October 12th, Netflix confirmed an exclusive partnership with the film's co-directors, Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans, to produce the sequel. While specific release dates remain undisclosed, the project is reportedly in its early planning stages.

Director Maggie Kang expressed her pride in the demand for Korean narratives and characters, stating, "There are still many stories to tell within the established universe." Co-director Chris Appelhans added, "It's exciting to expand the realm of stories that combine music and animation."

'K-Pop Demon Hunters' follows the story of the girl group 'Huntress' as they battle evil spirits. The film uniquely incorporates Korean elements such as bathhouses, kimbap, and traditional medicine, showcasing its cultural identity. Since its release in June last year, it has surpassed 500 million views, becoming one of Netflix's most successful content.

The film's soundtrack and accolades continue to impress. The featured song 'Golden' topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Earlier this year, it won the Best Animated Feature and Best Original Song at the Golden Globes and Critics' Choice Awards, respectively. In February, it made history as the first K-pop genre song to win the Grammy for Best Song Written for Visual Media.

Additionally, the film is nominated in two categories at the upcoming 98th Academy Awards on October 15th.
