Musical Actor Nam Kyung-joo Faces Sexual Assault Charges Amid Past Offenses
Renowned musical actor Nam Kyung-joo, 63, has been indicted without detention on charges of sexual assault, drawing attention to his past offenses.

In 2002, Nam's driver's license was revoked due to excessive demerit points from a DUI incident. The following year, in 2003, his license was again revoked for the same reason. At the time, Nam reportedly stated that he had no choice but to drive due to urgent matters. In 2004, he was booked without detention for driving his mother's car without a license.

The Seoul Bangbae Police Station recently transferred Nam's case to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office. The charge is sexual assault by means of power. It is alleged that he attempted the crime against a woman, identified as A, last year.

A reportedly felt threatened and called 112 to report the incident. After questioning Nam, the police concluded that the charges were credible and forwarded the case to the prosecution last month.

On October 11, Nam acknowledged through a media outlet that the investigation is ongoing but refrained from commenting on the specific charges of sexual assault by means of power.

Nam Kyung-joo debuted in the musical 'Porgy and Bess' in 1994 and has been a consistent presence on stage for over 40 years. He is currently an associate professor in the Performing Arts Department at Hongik University.
