On the 10th, an entertainment media outlet released footage of Lee crashing into a median on a six-lane road and fleeing the scene.
The outlet reported, "Immediately after the accident, Lee Jae-ryong took no action. Fearing the discovery of his DUI, he instead accelerated," adding, "Debris from the guardrail was left scattered around the accident site."
Lee Jae-ryong is accused of hitting multiple medians while driving near Cheongdam Station on Seoul's Subway Line 7 in Gangnam District around 11 PM on the 6th and fleeing the scene. Reports indicate that over ten medians were damaged in the incident.
It is reported that Lee parked his vehicle at his residence and stayed at a friend's house before being apprehended by the police. At the time of his arrest, his blood alcohol content was measured at a level warranting license suspension.
The Gangnam Police Station in Seoul announced on the 9th that they are investigating Lee Jae-ryong for violating the Road Traffic Act (failure to take action after an accident) and other charges. He is expected to be summoned for further questioning soon.
This is not Lee Jae-ryong's first DUI incident. In 2003, he had his license revoked following a DUI accident in Gangnam, and in 2019, he received a deferred prosecution for damaging a bowling alley sign while intoxicated in the same district.
