Park Hyun-sun, wife of Yang Joon-hyuk, opened up about the misunderstandings and family opposition they faced during their marriage.
On the October 8th episode of KBS2's variety show 'The Boss Has Donkey Ears', Yang Joon-hyuk and his wife Park Hyun-sun made an appearance.
The couple, who run a fish farming and restaurant business in Pohang, revealed their home. Park Hyun-sun shared, "People misunderstood that I married him for his wealth, saying I was a gold digger." At the time, rumors circulated that Yang Joon-hyuk had a fortune of 10 billion won and owned 10 luxury cars. Park jokingly asked Yang, "Where's the 10 billion?" In reality, Yang's business was struggling the most when they got married. Yang confessed, "We got married when I hit rock bottom, when I lost everything. I had no wealth then."
The couple faced strong opposition from their families due to their age difference. Park Hyun-sun is 19 years younger than Yang Joon-hyuk, and Yang is only 9 years younger than Park's father.
Park revealed, "I didn't have the courage to talk about marriage, so I texted my parents on Parents' Day." She continued, "My dad called and asked, 'Do you want to marry someone like your dad?' He was very concerned about the age difference." Yang was born in 1969, while Park's father was born in 1960. Park's father recalled, "The difference between the '60s and '70s seemed significant. I often thought, 'If only he were born in the '70s.'"
There was a family gathering where Yang met Park's relatives. Yang shared, "I felt humiliated at the time."
Park's father reminisced, "Initially, I was strongly opposed. I couldn't even talk about it to others and suffered in silence." Her mother added, "My husband cried every morning." Park and her father wiped away tears.
However, now the family fully supports and believes in Yang Joon-hyuk. Yang stated, "I try to do my best for them. Now, my father-in-law is my biggest supporter in business. The whole family helps a lot." Park's father expressed, "I'm proud of my son-in-law. Seeing them live well, I think I should have just pretended to oppose."
