Set to premiere next month, MBC's new Friday-Saturday drama '21st Century Grand Princess' is set in a constitutional monarchy in modern-day South Korea. It tells the story of a wealthy woman frustrated by her commoner status and a prince who, despite his royal lineage, finds himself unable to possess anything. The drama explores their journey to defy fate and societal status. Lee Jae-won and Chae Seo-an play the roles of Castle Group's eldest son, Sung Tae-joo, and Han Da-young, the daughter of a former Minister of Justice, respectively.
Sung Tae-joo is the eldest son of Castle Group and the half-brother of Sung Hee-joo, played by IU. After a long courtship, he marries Han Da-young, a noblewoman, and dreams of being a husband he can be proud of. He is fiercely competing with his ambitious younger sister, Sung Hee-joo, for the position of Castle Group's successor.
Han Da-young, Sung Tae-joo's wife, is the daughter of a former Minister of Justice. With beauty, intelligence, and status, she enjoys a happy marriage with Sung Tae-joo, who cherishes her. She is determined to make her husband, who is overshadowed by his father and sister, the most successful man in the world, leading to a subtle rivalry with her sister-in-law, Sung Hee-joo.
Unlike Sung Hee-joo, who opts for a contract marriage with Prince Ian (played by Byun Woo-seok), Sung Tae-joo and Han Da-young enjoy a blissful life after a long romance. Their mutual affection is unmatched, raising expectations for their dynamic in the series.
The pairing of Lee Jae-won and Chae Seo-an as Sung Tae-joo and Han Da-young is also drawing attention. Lee Jae-won, known for his engaging performances in various popular works, and Chae Seo-an, who gained recognition through the drama 'Poksok Sokatsu,' promise to deliver a lively synergy that will captivate audiences.
'21st Century Grand Princess' is set to premiere in April.
