On the recent episode of KBS 1TV's 'Let's Live Together with Hwang Shin-hye,' South Korea's first profiler, Kwon Il-yong, made a guest appearance.
Hwang Shin-hye explained the reason for inviting Kwon Il-yong, saying, "The world is scary these days with unimaginable incidents and accidents. As mothers raising daughters, we constantly worry when they are out late. It's not that we don't trust them, but the world is frightening." Kwon Il-yong shared insights on 'preventing everyday crimes,' emphasizing the importance of wise responses to crime.
Jang Yoon-jung revealed a personal story, stating, "My mom recently fell victim to voice phishing." She explained, "All the money in her bank account was stolen, and she was deeply shocked." Hwang Shin-hye and Jung Ga-eun were taken aback by the revelation.
Jang Yoon-jung continued, "When others fall for it, we think, 'How could they be so foolish?' But when it happens to your own family, it's a huge shock. I told my mom to talk about it instead of keeping it to herself, and then others started sharing their own experiences."
Her mother was deceived by a scam claiming her phone was broken. Jang Yoon-jung explained, "Ironically, my brother's phone had actually broken before the scam, so my mom believed it."
Kwon Il-yong inquired about the reporting process. Jang Yoon-jung shared, "My mom's personal information was compromised. She realized something was wrong during a meal when she thought, 'Why would they ask me things my daughter would know?' She got chills and tried to call, but the phone was dead. In her panic, she used the 'emergency contact' feature to report it to the police."
She added, "When we called 112, the police asked her to come to the station. Since she didn't have a car, they kindly picked her up. My mom used the officer's phone to call me, and I went to the station."
Kwon Il-yong advised, "In any situation, seek help from the police." He warned, "By 2025, voice phishing damages are expected to exceed 1 trillion won. In the past, they only took cash, but now entire fortunes are at risk."
