In the fourth episode of MBC's Friday-Saturday drama 'Your Glorious Season' (directed by Jung Sang-hee, Kim Young-jae / written by Jo Sung-hee), aired on the 28th, the distance between Song Ha-ran (played by Lee Sung-kyung) and Sun Woo-chan (played by Chae Jong-hyeop) narrowed significantly.
The episode recorded a nationwide household rating of 3.1% and the same in the metropolitan area, according to Nielsen Korea. A particularly gripping scene where Song Ha-young (played by Han Ji-hyun) takes revenge after learning her boyfriend Cha Min (played by Kang Hyun-oh) is marrying another woman, spiked to a momentary high of 5.1% nationwide. However, this is a decline from the 4.4% rating of the first episode.
In this episode, Sun Woo-chan visits the hospital due to symptoms of tinnitus and visual disturbances. His doctor suggests that his reunion with Song Ha-ran might have triggered memories linked to an explosion accident seven years ago, mentioning a gap in his unconscious memory. The doctor's advice to keep a distance from Song Ha-ran adds to Sun Woo-chan's anxiety.
Ahead of a field trip to Gyeongju, Sun Woo-chan visits the Han River's Jamsu Bridge with Song Ha-ran. Despite the bridge being a place of painful memories for both, they create new ones by cycling together. Song Ha-ran's remark, "I thought I could only be sad here, but I can smile too," resonates with Sun Woo-chan's resolve to do everything he can for her happiness before leaving.
After receiving a call from Kim Na-na (played by Lee Mi-sook), Sun Woo-chan picks up Song Ha-ran in his car. However, a honking sound triggers another reaction in him, nearly leading to an accident. Though he manages to regain control, he worries about causing Song Ha-ran distress. Later, at the café 'Rest,' Song Ha-ran reflects on their time at the bridge, saying, "Even sad memories can be overwritten," and vows not to confine herself again until the trial period ends.
Sun Woo-chan confesses, "I was afraid you'd retreat after finally gaining courage," to which Song Ha-ran suggests they communicate openly to avoid unnecessary guilt. Yet, when she asks him to reveal a secret next time, Sun Woo-chan is left speechless, unable to disclose that he was the one communicating with her on behalf of Kang Hyuk-chan (played by Kwon Do-hyung) seven years ago.
Meanwhile, Kim Na-na's health issues come to light. Suspecting recent memory lapses, she learns about the possibility of dementia through a center consultation. An unexpected connection is revealed when she discovers that Cha Yoo-gyeom (played by Kim Tae-young), Song Ha-dam's (played by Oh Ye-ju) boyfriend, helped her when she was stranded at a crosswalk. Kim Na-na asks Cha Yoo-gyeom not to inform her family yet, expressing her determination to organize her affairs and seek treatment. Her sudden health decline is particularly poignant, given her role as a supportive figure for her three granddaughters over 13 years.
During the Gyeongju trip with Sun Woo-chan, Song Ha-ran encounters another turning point amidst an unexpected downpour. While driving in Sun Woo-chan's stead, she is momentarily blinded by the rain and a stalled wiper. Sensing her panic, Sun Woo-chan helps steer the car to a rest area. They spend time at his grandmother's nearby house until a replacement vehicle arrives.
In his grandmother's pottery studio, Song Ha-ran learns about Sun Woo-chan's childhood. Despite his love for drawing, he had to abandon his dream due to his father's opposition, compounded by his mother's death and a move to the U.S. These revelations expose the deep-seated wounds he has carried. His remark about being someone she shouldn't love leaves a lasting impression on Song Ha-ran.
Towards the end of the episode, Song Ha-ran asks Sun Woo-chan, "Why am I someone you shouldn't love?" After a brief hesitation, he moves closer and asks, "Then, can I love you?" His confession, delivered in the calm after the storm, encapsulates their emotions, creating a heart-stopping ending.
The fifth episode of MBC's 'Your Glorious Season' will air on an extended schedule on the 6th at 9:40 PM.
