Sunye, former member of the legendary K-POP girl group Wonder Girls, opens up about the emotional turmoil she faced at the age of 20 due to the consecutive deaths of her family members.
On KBS 2TV's 'New Release, Pyeonstorang', Sunye makes her debut as a new chef. Known as a K-POP icon, Sunye has transitioned into a devoted mother of three and is set to reveal her cooking skills for the first time. The show will also delve into the significant hardships she encountered during Wonder Girls' U.S. activities in 2009, which altered the course of her life.
In the episode, Sunye receives a visit from her aunt and uncle, prompting her to prepare a meal with impressive speed and skill. Her culinary talents are on full display as she sets the table. Her aunt and uncle arrive bearing gifts, reminiscent of parental figures, and they share a meal while reminiscing about the past.
During Wonder Girls' peak, as they became the first girl group to break into the U.S. market, Sunye received the devastating news of her father's critical condition. She recalls, "My father lived for 20 years with almost no lung function, and eventually, all his organs failed."
Reflecting on that time, Sunye's aunt and uncle remember her desperate phone call from the U.S., pleading, "He must be kept alive." Despite her heartfelt wishes, her father passed away. Her aunt shared her father's final request, bringing tears to both her and Sunye.
At the height of her career, Sunye lost both her grandfather and father, leading to a period of emotional collapse. She expressed gratitude for her aunt and uncle, who have been like another set of parents to her, saying, "They are like another mom and dad to me."
What were her father's last words? How did Sunye find the strength to rise again after such profound loss? These questions will be answered on the episode airing on October 27 at 8:30 PM on KBS 2TV's 'New Release, Pyeonstorang'.
