Jo Se-ho appeared on Netflix's variety show 'Driver 4' released on the 22nd, marking his first broadcast appearance since the controversy erupted last December. He stated, "I will be more cautious about my relationships," and clarified that he had "never received money or had any financial or business ties" with the acquaintance known to be involved in organized crime. He described the relationship as merely a personal acquaintance with whom he occasionally dined.
Jo also addressed his departure from shows '1 Night 2 Days' and 'You Quiz on the Block,' saying, "I thought it was right to step down as people might have felt uncomfortable and disappointed." However, regarding his recent appearance, he commented, "I don't consider this a comeback. I am still reflecting and will be more careful in the future." Fellow cast member Joo Woo-jae added, "It was filmed according to a pre-set schedule and is not a comeback."
These statements have sparked debate. Critics argue that given the timing of the filming post-controversy and his reappearance after two months, the claim of "not a comeback" seems inconsistent with reality. Some suggest that avoiding the term 'comeback' while mentioning apology and reflection might appear as an attempt to downplay responsibility.
Conversely, others argue that if the filming was pre-scheduled, it technically doesn't constitute a comeback. Since no illegal activities or monetary exchanges have been confirmed, continuing his activities shouldn't be problematic. Expanding the issue to moral grounds over personal acquaintances is seen as excessive by some.
The atmosphere of the shows Jo left is also noteworthy. '1 Night 2 Days' saw a rise in ratings with Yoo Seon-ho joining after Jo's departure, and 'You Quiz on the Block' continues smoothly with Yoo Jae-suk alone. Some viewers feel the programs have become more streamlined.
The assessment of Jo Se-ho's return to broadcasting and his approach remains ongoing. Observers are keen to see how he will continue his career and how public opinion will evolve following this appearance.
