Dr. Oh Eun-young Analyzes the Silence in Family Dynamics on 'My Golden Kids'

Dr. Oh Eun-young delves into the meaning of silence in family relationships.

On the upcoming episode of Channel A's 'My Golden Kids,' airing at 9 PM on the 20th, the second part of the story titled 'The Fifth Grader Who Cursed His Mom and Started a Terror' will be revealed.

In the previous episode, the child referred to past family photos as 'dark history,' expressing distress and evoking sympathy from viewers. The story of the family, divided between the father and the eldest child, and the mother and the younger child, following the parents' divorce, has drawn attention to the possibility of mending these relationships.

In a preview clip, the eldest child, who left home after a major argument with the mother, returns home after four months at the invitation of the younger sibling. Relieved to find the mother absent, the eldest heads straight to their room. While spending time in the room, the eldest engages in a board game and conversation with the younger sibling, appearing relatively at ease.

However, the atmosphere quickly shifts when the mother returns unexpectedly. The sound of the door lock causes the eldest's expression to harden, and upon facing the mother, the eldest utters, "You said you wouldn't come," a statement loaded with pent-up conflict and emotion. At the dinner table, silence prevails between the mother and daughter instead of conversation.

Eventually, the eldest stops eating and retreats to their room, with the mother following in an attempt to initiate dialogue, but the situation remains unresolved. Observing this, the younger sibling senses the tension and excuses themselves, saying, "I'll go buy some drinks." In the studio, Dr. Oh comments, "A child's lack of response may not be indifference but an expression of hurt," explaining that repeated disappointment and broken trust can lead to a breakdown in relationships.

The episode will also feature the younger child's first reunion with the father since the divorce. The child has shown contrasting behaviors, being verbally and physically aggressive towards the mother while emotionally shutting down with the father. Viewers are keen to see what changes, if any, have occurred in the child following counseling, especially after the shocking statement, "I want to cut out Dad's picture."
