Netflix's upcoming series 'Monthly Boyfriend' is set to bring excitement to mundane daily life. Starring BLACKPINK's Jisoo and Seo In-guk, the series will premiere on March 6.
'Monthly Boyfriend' is a romantic comedy that follows the story of Mi-rae, a webtoon PD played by Jisoo, who is exhausted by her real-life routine. She subscribes to a virtual dating simulation, experiencing her dream romances in a virtual world. The series title also refers to the virtual dating subscription service within the show, offering dreamlike dates in a virtual setting. This unique premise promises thrilling excitement as it overlays the realistic daily life of an office worker with the fantasy of virtual dating.
The anticipation for Mi-rae's virtual romance is heightened with the release of the second poster and main trailer. The poster captivates with its dreamy atmosphere, as if stepping into a virtual world. It features various dates that Mi-rae can experience, each with a unique charm that promises excitement.
The main trailer reveals Mi-rae escaping her monotonous routine to enter 'Monthly Boyfriend.' Welcomed by the Date Manager, played by Yoo In-na, she steps into the virtual dating world, where fantasy-like events unfold. From meeting a prince-like date to encountering a first love on a cherry blossom-filled campus, receiving a passionate confession from a charming doctor, and even meeting secret agents and top stars, Mi-rae's dream dates come to life. After experiencing these thrilling dates, Mi-rae finds herself in a sweet daze. Meanwhile, the mysterious presence of Kyung-nam, played by Seo In-guk, who becomes her unexpected overtime mate, adds intrigue.
The special guest lineup further heightens anticipation for 'Monthly Boyfriend.' Actors Seo Kang-joon, Lee Soo-hyuk, Ong Seong-wu, Lee Jae-wook, Lee Hyun-wook, Kim Young-dae, Park Jae-bum, and Lee Sang-yi will appear as virtual world lovers, each bringing their unique charm to captivate viewers. Curiosity is piqued about how they will transform into characters and date Mi-rae. Additionally, the lively performances of Ha Young and Yoo In-na add to the excitement.
Director Kim Jung-sik, who helmed 'Monthly Boyfriend,' highlighted the series' unique appeal, stating, "The charm of 'Monthly Boyfriend' lies in the protagonist experiencing romance with various characters in different worlds and settings within a single work. It allows for a variety of romantic comedy variations." He further explained that for the virtual world dating scenes, "We focused on showcasing the diverse charms of actress Jisoo in a vibrant way. Each episode features different professions and settings, with acting tones adjusted to distinguish between Mi-rae's real and virtual world roles."
The romantic comedy 'Monthly Boyfriend' will be available on Netflix starting March 6.
