Ahn Sang-jin, the younger member of the beloved 1980s twin duo 'Soo Wa Jin,' has recently shared a heartbreaking update on his health.
The YouTube channel 'Exclusive World - The People of That Time' recently featured a video titled "Soo Wa Jin's Ahn Sang-jin: Attacked and Diagnosed with Lung Tumor, Struggling with Daily Life."
'Soo Wa Jin' debuted in 1987 and quickly rose to fame with hits like 'Morning Dawn' and 'Pacho,' earning numerous newcomer awards and widespread popularity.
However, just two years after their debut, in 1989, Ahn Sang-jin was attacked by an assailant, resulting in three brain surgeries. In 2011, he was diagnosed with a lung tumor, leading to another major surgery.
Currently, Ahn is living with part of his lung removed, experiencing difficulties in daily life.
She continued, "There was a lump under his lung, and they said surgery was necessary. When we heard it wasn't cancer but a tumor, I was so relieved that I ran around the house with joy," she reminisced. "But how much pain must he have been in? I cried a lot because of Sang-jin," she said, wiping away her tears.
Ahn Sang-jin also shared his struggles post-surgery, using a portable oxygen tank and bronchodilator during walks. "When lung function decreases, the bronchial tubes narrow, making even a simple walk require preparation," he explained. "With lung function at about half of a normal person's, the most regrettable thing is the shortened emotional impact when singing."
Ahn candidly shared, "My condition has worsened. My lung function is about half of a normal person's." He added, "Having surgery on a respiratory organ means that when trying to hold a note, it's like having half the capacity of a normal person. While most people or singers can sustain a note for about eight measures, I can't even manage four, which shortens the emotional delivery to the audience. But I have the will to keep going, and that thought helps me overcome it."
His brother, Ahn Sang-soo, expressed his heartfelt concern, saying, "Singing alone is different from singing together as Soo Wa Jin. My brother needs to get better. He needs to recover before it's too late. We need to boost his condition, and I'll wait until then," showing deep affection.
