On April 11, an interview with Sandeul, who is currently performing in the musical 'Death Note' (produced by Shin Chun-soo), took place at the D-Cube Link Art Center in Sillim-dong, Seoul.
Sandeul was cast as 'L' in 'Death Note,' which is being performed to mark its 10th anniversary. L is the world's greatest detective, known for his genius deductive skills while keeping his identity hidden.
Reviews have been overwhelmingly positive about Sandeul's acting skills. He expressed his joy, saying, "I'm so, so happy," with a bright smile. He added, "I didn't try to express differently from other actors or create something unique of my own. I just became curious about why L lived the way he did and how he became a great detective, which helped me portray him well on stage."
Sandeul mentioned that he looks up all the audience reactions. He said, "Reading reviews is fun," and added, "Even if there are criticisms, I accept them by thinking, 'Oh, today's performance was like that, I should reflect on it.'" He further explained, "When people say I did well, I tend to doubt it first, and if there are negative reactions, I try to reflect on them."
Checking reactions has become a routine for Sandeul. Although he's not sure why, the feedback gives him strength. He explained, "After passionately finishing a performance and going home, I'm already in a state of dopamine release, so I can't fall asleep right away. During that time, I look up reviews to see how I did on stage today."
Additionally, Sandeul shared, "At the beginning of the performance, I saw a review saying I was too energetic. Honestly, it stung a bit," but he added, "I wasn't trying to appear powerful, but if there's such a review, I accept it and use it as an opportunity to improve."
Meanwhile, 'Death Note' is based on the anime of the same name created by HoriPro in 2015. It tells the story of Light, who discovers a Death Note and attempts to bring justice by eliminating evil, and the detective L who pursues him. The performance runs until May 10.
