In 2012, actor Kim Tae-hyung faced an unimaginable tragedy when he lost his three young sons, aged 8, 6, and 3, on the same day. This heartbreaking story has resurfaced online, touching the hearts of many.
The tragedy began with a seemingly ordinary text message. Kim Tae-hyung, who appeared on MBN's 'Special World' in 2022, recalled his memories of his children's mother. He described her as a good mother who cared for their children and never indulged in extravagance.
However, she left home without a word, leaving behind a text message and cutting off contact. Kim tearfully recounted, "She said she would take the kids out for some fresh air, and that was the last time I saw them."
A week later, when he was told that his wife had been found, his first question was, "What about the kids?" The response he received was life-shattering: "The children are gone."
Kim, who lost all his children at once, was in a state of panic. He recalled, "I didn't eat for ten days, only drank alcohol. I thought if I drank for two more days, I would just go."
To this day, Kim does not know if his wife was responsible for their children's deaths or why it happened. "The authorities couldn't determine the exact cause. They say it was due to financial difficulties, but I can't accept that," he shared.
His ex-wife is currently serving a 20-year sentence and is expected to be released in 2033 at the age of 59. Kim attempted to visit her out of curiosity, but she refused to see him. He wrote her a letter, expressing, "You may be behind bars, but I am in a prison without bars, serving the same sentence."
Towards the end of the broadcast, Kim was seen visiting his children's memorial park. He brought three packs of their favorite snacks, expressing regret and sorrow, "They only brought me joy and happiness. I feel sorry for not doing more for them." He promised, "I will come to you," shedding tears of pain.
Viewers who watched the broadcast commented, "I've never seen someone so sad," "The pain must be unbearable," "I hope to see him in more dramas," "I couldn't hold back tears when he placed the snacks," and "Living each day is a miracle."
Kim Tae-hyung debuted in 1993 as part of KBS's 15th open recruitment for actors. He has appeared in dramas such as 'Daughters of a Rich Family,' 'Jang Nok-su,' 'Tears of the Dragon,' 'Taejo Wang Geon,' 'Empress Myeongseong,' 'The Age of Wild Men,' 'Yeon Gaesomun,' and 'Jeong Do-jeon.'
