Actor Kim Seung-soo, 54, recently opened up about a terrifying health scare where he nearly faced blindness due to shingles.
On the October 5th episode of KBS2's variety show 'Problem Child in House,' Kim Seung-soo appeared as a guest alongside actress So Yi-hyun.
During the show, Kim recounted a harrowing experience, saying, "I once came close to death. I had just returned from an exhausting business trip to China. I was so fatigued that I nearly collapsed upon arriving back in Korea. I thought a drink might help me relax, so I had a little and went to sleep. The next morning, I woke up with a rash on my face. Initially, I thought it was due to fatigue, but it spread rapidly within 4 to 5 hours. Realizing it wasn't just a rash, I went to a pharmacy, and they told me it was shingles and advised me to go to the hospital immediately."
He continued, "At the hospital, they said the shingles virus was spreading acutely. Half of my face was covered in blisters. It felt like my face was being scratched with a fork. Even staying still was painful, and I couldn't help but groan."
Kim further explained, "The doctor warned that if the shingles virus reached my brain, it could cause paralysis, and if it invaded my eyes, it could lead to blindness. During the examination, they suspected it had already reached my cornea."
Reflecting on the 15 days he spent bedridden, Kim said, "I was overconfident about my health. I thought I could handle anything, but this was a serious wake-up call." He emphasized the importance of getting vaccinated against shingles.
