Actor Kim Seon-ho is embroiled in tax evasion allegations, potentially affecting the release schedule of his upcoming project, 'Hypnosis'.
Disney+ representatives for 'Hypnosis' told TenAsia on the 3rd, "The specific release date has not been confirmed yet. We will update you as the situation develops."
Set in 1935 Gyeongseong, 'Hypnosis' is a mystery horror period drama about a painter, Yoon I-ho (played by Kim Seon-ho), who is commissioned to paint a portrait of the enchanting woman Song Jeong-hwa (played by Suzy), who has not been seen outside for over half a century. As he delves into her mysterious secrets, the story unfolds. Directed by Han Jae-rim, known for 'Emergency Declaration' and 'The Eight Show', the series stars Kim Seon-ho and Suzy.
Although 'Hypnosis' is part of Disney+'s upcoming release lineup, the exact schedule remains undecided. Recent tax evasion allegations against Kim Seon-ho have raised concerns about potential delays. 'Hypnosis' was previously introduced at the 'Disney+ Original Preview 2025' held in Hong Kong late last year.
Disney+ has faced similar issues before, such as the 'Kim Soo-hyun risk', which delayed the release of his project 'Knockoff' due to allegations of his relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron when she was a minor. This led to a halt in filming and an indefinite postponement of the release. Kim Soo-hyun attended the 'Disney Content Showcase 2024' to promote his work.
Recently, Kim Seon-ho has been caught up in a tax evasion controversy involving a 'family corporation'. His current agency, Fantagio, clarified that the corporation was established for theater production and related activities, denying any intentional tax evasion. However, it was revealed that Kim Seon-ho received settlement payments through a one-person corporation from his former agency, Salt Entertainment, in January 2024. Salt Entertainment stated, "We only deposited the payment into the account requested by the actor."
Kim Seon-ho ended his exclusive contract with Salt Entertainment, with whom he had been since 2018, and moved to Fantagio last year.
