The tvN drama 'Undercover Miss Hong' is set in the late 1990s and follows the story of elite securities supervisor Hong Geum-bo (played by Park Shin-hye), who goes undercover as a 20-year-old entry-level employee at a suspicious securities firm. Kang Chae-young plays Kim Mi-sook, a teller at Hanmin Securities' Magang branch and Hong Geum-bo's dormitory roommate in room 301.
Episodes 5 and 6, aired on the 31st and 1st, revealed Kim Mi-sook's hidden family story. The identity of the child hinted at through a photo frame was unveiled as her six-year-old daughter, Kim Bom (played by Kim Se-ah), and the touching story of secretly living with Bom in the dormitory was disclosed, evoking sympathy. Kang Chae-young's heartfelt portrayal of maternal love, especially in moments of Bom's disappearance or illness, brought tears to viewers' eyes.
Additionally, Kim Mi-sook's multifaceted character was vividly portrayed. In a scene where she first explains the existence of the 'Fox Club' to Hong Geum-bo, Kang naturally conveys crucial plot information. She also offers warm comfort to Go Bok-hee (played by Ha Yoon-kyung), who is anxious about her brother's release from prison, by preparing a lunchbox for her. The chemistry among the 301-room roommates is enriched through scenes of caring for Kim Bom or watching horror shows together with Kang No-ra (played by Choi Ji-soo).
'Undercover Miss Hong,' featuring Kang Chae-young, airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 PM.
