Cynthia, who graced audiences with one drama and two films this year, expressed her gratitude as she reflected on the past year.
Recently, I met Cynthia, the star of the film 'Even If This Love Disappears from the World Tonight' (hereafter 'EITLD'), at a café in Samcheong-dong, Seoul.
'EITLD,' which premiered on the 24th, is a youthful romance about Seo-yoon (played by Cynthia), who loses her memory of each day, and Jae-won (played by Choo Young-woo), who helps her remember. The film is an adaptation of Misaki Ichijo's bestselling novel, which sold over 1.3 million copies worldwide. The Japanese version of the film was a massive hit, attracting 1.21 million viewers in Korea and breaking the 20-year record of Japan's top-grossing film 'Love Letter.' In this movie, Cynthia plays Seo-yoon, a high school girl suffering from anterograde amnesia due to an accident.
First love themes and characters have been explored in countless works. When asked how she portrayed her unique first love character, Cynthia replied, "I don't have memories of a movie-like first love from my school days. I tried to depict it with a fresh and exciting image." She added, "I focused on Seo-yoon's delicate emotional lines. Seo-yoon is a calm character with subtle expressions of emotion. However, she carries sadness, pain, and brightness within her. Seo-yoon is a strong character. I thought about how to show these details well." When asked about her own first love, she laughed and said, "My first love was a school teacher. He was a popular teacher that all the kids liked."
This year, Cynthia showcased three works: the drama 'Someday Wise Resident Life,' the film 'Destruction,' and this latest movie. Reflecting on the year, she said, "While I was taking a break, I often thought about wanting to work. I frequently asked myself, 'Can I work busily too?' I wasn't sure about it. But this year, I'm grateful to have had the chance to meet the public more than ever. It also gives me a sense of responsibility to work harder on better projects." Regarding her plans for next year, she stated, "My goal is to build stamina to seize new opportunities when they come. I also want to spend the year taking good care of and looking after the people around me."
