Earlier this year, MBC began producing a documentary chronicling Lee Soon-jae's illustrious acting career with his consent. However, due to the sudden deterioration of his health, production was halted. Just three days after his passing, the documentary was transformed into a tribute to reach audiences.
The late Lee Soon-jae debuted in theater and dedicated over 70 years to his craft, leaving behind an unparalleled legacy. His body of work includes 175 dramas, 150 films, and over 100 plays. Despite his extensive career, he received only one acting award. The intense practice stories leading up to this award highlight his dedication to acting. During the filming of the drama for which he received the award last year, he was already nearly blind.
The MBC tribute documentary 'Actor Lee Soon-jae, We Owe You a Lot' will share the poignant story of how the oldest active actor concealed his deteriorating vision to continue acting. It will also reveal, for the first time, his final moments as he battled illness from his hospital bed last year.
The documentary's narration is provided by actor Lee Seo-jin, who shared a close bond with Lee Soon-jae through projects like the drama 'Yi San' and the variety show 'Grandpas Over Flowers.' Lee Seo-jin, who once expressed a desire to be reborn as Lee Soon-jae's son, recorded a heartfelt message for the late actor, moving the production team to tears.
'Actor Lee Soon-jae, We Owe You a Lot' will air at 8:40 PM.
