Disney+ APAC President Highlights Korean Content's Growth in Latin America

Luke Kang, President of The Walt Disney Company Asia-Pacific (APAC), shared insights on the growth of Disney+ content in the region, highlighting the rapid expansion of Korean content in Latin America.

On the 13th, The Walt Disney Company APAC hosted the 'Disney+ Original Preview 2025' at the Hong Kong Disneyland Hotel. The event offered a sneak peek at upcoming APAC and global original content on Disney+. It featured APAC originals from countries like Korea and Japan, along with general entertainment lineups, attended by top stars and creative partners.

President Luke Kang remarked, "With titles like 'Moving,' 'Nine Puzzle,' 'Casino,' and 'Gannibal,' we have demonstrated Disney's creative prowess through various award-winning works." He added, "Our productions such as 'Shogun,' 'Alien: Earth,' and 'The Lighting Store' transcend generations, ages, genders, and regions, connecting and immersing audiences, ultimately bringing joy to countless lives."

Kang emphasized, "Stories from Korea and Japan are increasingly resonating with audiences worldwide." He further explained, "Korean content is highly appreciated in the APAC region and the United States, and it's experiencing significant growth in Latin America, particularly in Brazil and Mexico, where we see the highest viewer engagement."

Last week, Disney+ announced a partnership with CJ ENM. The Walt Disney Company Japan revealed a multi-year content collaboration with CJ ENM, a leading Korean entertainment company. This strategic partnership will facilitate the entry of TVING's premium streaming content into the Japanese market, positioning Disney+ as a key subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) partner for TVING in Japan. Additionally, Disney+ offers ESPN's sports content.

Kang stated, "The APAC bundle allows more people to enjoy Disney+ content. At The Walt Disney Company, we have always believed in the power of collaboration." He continued, "We work with amazing storytellers to create powerful and authentic content. Our role is to provide producers, actors, and others with the opportunity to succeed with the best stories through our creativity, marketing, and all available means."

He concluded, "Our long-term goal is to expand APAC original works to a global franchise scale," adding, "We will fully leverage our talent, platform, and IP ecosystem." Kang also emphasized, "Disney's strength lies in our ecosystem and our unparalleled relationship and bond with fans."
