In the tvN weekend drama 'Typhoon Family,' Lee Junho portrays Kang Tae-pung, a character who loses everything during the 1997 IMF crisis but rises again. From the first week, he delivered a mix of laughter, tears, and deep resonance, leaving a strong impression.
Lee Junho vividly depicted the youthful spirit of the 90s through Kang Tae-pung, a symbol of freedom and romance. On the nightclub stage, Tae-pung dreams of his own world, embodying the essence of youthful freedom of that era. However, the IMF crisis shatters this bright youth overnight. Faced with the reality of saving his company from bankruptcy, Tae-pung begins to transform into a responsible employee, setting aside his dreams and romance.
Most notably, Lee Junho masterfully conveys the character's emotions through his eyes, capturing every nuance of youth. His eyes sparkle with freedom, show desperation against the harsh realities, and reflect sorrow in moments of loss.
Particularly, Lee Junho's portrayal of shock and guilt in the face of his father Kang Jin-young's (played by Sung Dong-il) sudden death was compelling. The scene where Tae-pung, unsure whether to cry or be angry, discovers his father's bankbook letter and releases his pent-up longing, earned praise as "Lee Junho's eyes tell the story."
Writer Jang Hyun commented, "Kang Tae-pung is a challenging character to portray. He's a flower-loving, charming Apgujeong playboy, a filial son, kind, and handsome, requiring both cuteness and toughness. I wondered if it was possible, but actor Lee Junho achieved it." He added, "When we first met, I jokingly said he should become the nation's son, boyfriend, and boss, and seeing him accomplish all that is truly impressive."
'Typhoon Family' airs every Saturday and Sunday at 9:10 PM.
