Singer and artist Kwon Ji-an, also known by her stage name Solbi, is set to present her first solo exhibition in Daegu following her successful debut in Portugal.
From October 14 to November 22, Kwon will host the 'Rhythm of Language' exhibition at Cheongmundang, a multi-cultural space in Buk-gu, Daegu. This marks her first solo exhibition in Daegu, officially invited by the Buk-gu Cultural Foundation. Cheongmundang is known for supporting emerging and young artists and collaborating with local merchants, a mission that resonates with Kwon, who gladly accepted the invitation.
The exhibition will feature approximately 18 pieces, including her renowned 'Humming Letter' series, the 'Apple' series, and new works slated for 2025.
Kwon continues her exploration of expanding positive language through art. The 'Humming Letter' series translates the nuances of emotions that words cannot fully capture into visual rhythms. The 'Apple' series, inspired by an online comment mocking her ability to draw an apple, symbolizes the impact of digital age language violence, the potential for healing, and the power of art to restore language.
The exhibition is enhanced with AI technology, offering an interactive experience. On the second floor, visitors can enjoy the sounds of nature generated by the AI music program 'SUNU' alongside the artworks. On the third floor, visitors can record their own humming, which is then transformed into visual art, providing a unique artistic experience. The exhibition also features a collaboration with local young artist Hwang Joo-seung, capturing the attention of attendees.
Park Jung-sook, CEO of the Buk-gu Cultural Foundation, stated, "This exhibition reflects on the power of language and its deeper meanings, delivering messages of healing and reconciliation through art. We hope Daegu citizens experience the resonance and moments of recovery through Kwon Ji-an's work."
Kwon recently gained international attention with her successful solo exhibition in Porto, Portugal. The Cheongmundang exhibition continues this trajectory, showcasing her artistic journey to both domestic and international audiences.
Kwon Ji-an's 'Rhythm of Language' exhibition runs from October 14 to November 22, with an opening ceremony and artist talk scheduled for October 21.
